Background
The Global Shapers Community Uyo Hub participated in the International Day of the Girl Child (IDGC) event held on 11th December 2025 at Community Secondary School Udung Uko The event was integrated into the school’s end-of-year activities, providing a safe and structured environment to engage female students in meaningful conversations around leadership, confidence, and personal development.
The intervention aligned with the Hub’s focus on improving well-being and creating safe spaces where young people, especially girls, can express themselves, gain knowledge, and build confidence.
Objectives of the Engagement
The event aimed to:
- Promote self-confidence and leadership awareness among girls
- Hygiene and healthy living
- Increase awareness of rights, personal growth, and opportunities
- Encourage young girls to see themselves as active contributors in their communities
Activities Implemented
The program featured interactive sessions and guided discussions centered on:
- Self-confidence and self-worth
- Sexual Health and Hygiene
- Personal development, leadership, and responsibility
- Awareness of rights and opportunities
The session was designed to be participatory, allowing students to share their thoughts, ask questions, and reflect openly in a supportive environment.
The Hub was represented by the Impact Officer, Abasiama Cyril, who engaged directly with participants and facilitators, ensuring alignment with the Hub’s values of inclusion, youth empowerment, and community engagement.

For future engagements, the Hub may consider:

- Collecting short written reflections from participants
- Establishing follow-up sessions to reinforce learning outcomes
Conclusion
The International Day of the Girl Child engagement provided a meaningful platform for young girls to reflect on their leadership potential, build confidence, and engage in open dialogue. The Hub’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive community engagement.
